Who is calling out to me,
In the shade where the green leaves be?
I still have breath, still remain,
So why do you call my name?
Never have I raised my hand,
Nor sought a sky where I could stand.
Where is the sky to hold me true,
Who calls me now, who asks me through?
When my work is done, and morning comes,
The leaves will fall, their sound goes numb.
Not a tear shall drop that day,
As the wind takes them all away.
But until then, don’t call for me,
Let me stay, let me be free.
Never have I raised my hand,
Nor sought a sky where I could stand.
Where is the sky to hold me true,
Who calls me now, who asks me through?
When the morning comes, I will be gone,
Like the leaves that flutter, one by one.
But not with sorrow, not with pain,
Just a quiet fall, like autumn rain.
So do not call, just let me stay,
Until my final, quiet day.
The green leaves grow, the shade is deep,
And I still breathe, though shadows creep.
No sky to hold, no hand to raise,
Just silence in these final days.
Do not call for me, not now,
Let the leaves fall as they know how.
In silence, I will go my way,
Do not call, let me stay.
