I thought the train had just arrived
Turned out it had just been leaving
In a whirlwind of yesterday’s dust
I thought I had it all figured out by now
Just following the sounds
My footsteps echo through the hall
And now I’m back at square one
Maybe a few steps behind
Can’t say I didn’t learn a thing or two along the way
And the people pass by like a flood
Draining out from the pipe
Dripping in gold and mud
Heavy eyes with no sight
Waiting for the next night
Turned out it had just been leaving
In a whirlwind of yesterday’s dust
I thought I had it all figured out by now
Just following the sounds
My footsteps echo through the hall
And now I’m back at square one
Maybe a few steps behind
Can’t say I didn’t learn a thing or two along the way
And the people pass by like a flood
Draining out from the pipe
Dripping in gold and mud
Heavy eyes with no sight
Waiting for the next night
